B.首先要看清楚句子的完整结构（主谓宾）很明显，never have been sighted on the surface of the Sun进一步解释说明spots，按这样来说整个句子结构就是sunspots are visible as dark spots.好像没错， 但看看后面划线部分和未划线部分，也就是never have been sighted on the surface of the Sun+the Sun’s poles or equator.这就很明显一读就会发现错误了。

错选了C，整理一下错误原因。首先，although省略的原则：① 主句主语=从句主语 ②从句部分省略的动词一定要是be动词。 还原一下本题中省略的从句部分Sunspots appear on the surface of the Sun as dark spots although （Sunspots are）never sighted at the Sun's poles or equator. 所以，这里C省略没有问题。C选项可能错误的原因：although和but一个是让步，一个是转折，可能强调的东西在后半部分所以but更佳；另外，as dark spots的位置里appear有点远，有the surface of the Sun == dark spots 的嫌疑。
