In the major cities of industrialized countries at the end of the nineteenth century, important public places such as theaters, restaurants, shops, and banks had installed electric lighting ,but electricity was in less than 1 percent of homes, where lighting was still provided mainly by candles or gas.
选A

注意从语义逻辑上解读,表达上不能用have(有Chinglish的味道了)例如“home have lighting(房子拥有光亮)或者have electricity等;只能说“lighting is provided in home"(房子里有光),electricity was in homes, 或者 homes were without electricity,或者there is no electricity in homes.

c,d 主要错在逻辑,主语是less than one percent of homes(with和that是对home的修饰,修饰去掉之后,讲的只有home,没有electricity) 而这道题的目的是,大多数人家里还没有通电,通电这个事情 ,所以a选项优选 除此之外,a选项where的修饰最好,因为离修饰对象--home最近。 b。

where引导地点状语从句,前面的先行词必须是一个地点,并且必须紧紧在where前面,A的where前面是homes,正确;C 和E 的前面是electricity,❌;D having表示同时或者有影响,但是有电灯的家庭不会同时使用candlegas 至于where引导的是1%homes还是all homes,这道题没有其他的选项,只能默认all homes,等同于前面的theaters、restaurants,shops

E has two problems 1. where is modifying electricity when it should modify homes 2. every clause has perfect tense and hence does not maintain sequence of events. source: https://gmatclub.com/forum/in-the-major-cities-of-industrialized-countries-at-the-end-of-the-nine-136124.html

greta
A,where 修饰的home难道不是已经有electric的home吗
ohtuzi回复greta
but electricity was in less than 1 percent of "homes", where lighting was still provided mainly by candles or gas.
