C 选项应该错在 ，ving 修饰不明确，可能修饰study 也可能修饰Swiss psychologists，有歧义 所以排除

我觉得只是原句都是过去式，所以时态保持一致就好了。到没有什么特定的原因说用过去完成时，只要是过去的一个时态就好。
