解析有一点说错了， Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than are fungi, 这个本身是没有错的.因为把Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than fungi are 里面的are提到了fungi前面。错就错在后面的一坨是用来修饰carbon的，所以A选项错！

我觉得是根据后面的同位语in the form of carbon dioxide排除了ABE，因为这是要修饰carbon的而不是fungi D缺谓语 因此选C
