To convey CONTEMPORANEOUS action, the present participle (VERBing) is needed: the hognose snake puts on a bluff...BROADENING the flesh behind its head. Eliminate A and B.
In D, broadening and feigns are not parallel. Eliminate D.
In E, the list of actions is not parallel: broadening...feigning...and will fall over. Eliminate E.
The correct answer is C.
In C, the actions are parallel:

1. 可以先看最后划线与非划线处的连接部分，副词不能当作连接词，所以一定需要一个and， CDE里面选。 D。 and feigns， 如果和puts 并列，那么就变成了。 the snake puts on an bluff, hissing.., broadening.., and feigns.... 可以看到，hissing 和broadening中间并没有连接词，所以不对。 E。并列 hissing, broadening, feigning. 中间也没有连接词。 C hissing, broadening, and feigning. 对。 (the snake puts on )...( but it has no..., and will fall if... ) 两个SVO 中间的hissing and rearing back 看成一个整体就好了

看到有人说三者并列，最后的and前的逗号可加可不加我的世界就已经崩塌了。做这道题，至少能看出来broaden和feign是平行的，就剩下了B和C。而后面又接了independent clause，所以and不可或缺，最后选C。
