Thomas Eakins's powerful style and his choices of subject-the advances in modern surgery, the discipline of sport, the strains of individuals in tension with society or even with themselves-was as disturbing to his own time as it is compelling for ours.
主句主语是style and choices,谓语动词应该用复数,排除AC;
比较的是过去和现在;they指代的是style and choices;
D it不能指代style and choices
第二,as后面的they are用来表示不同时态,ours是当前的,his own time是过去的,不可以省略they are 即使这样会导致平行不像B那么完美。
angelfighting

B Vs E: We are making comparison between 2 times Eakin's time(Past) and our (present) time. Have been shows present and hence incorrect.

Adam
Hanuman
按理来说, as disturbing to his own time as it is。。。
Hanuman
