从主语和前面的状语关系来看，Earth(首字母大写表示地球)显然在语义上不能cover the planet，所以AE排除。
BC选项有neither nor的固定搭配，is neither seamless nor is it stationary显然不平行，可直接排除。排除下来只有D选项相对优选。

转自别人的回答 这里的but并没有引导主句，而是作为主句中的一个固定搭配: neither..nor..but rather.. 你说的情况是although引导了让步状语从句，然后主句开头有but，比如说ALTHOUGH it covers the entire planet, BUT Earth’s crust is neither seamless nor stationary..这样就不对了

despite 后面只可以跟简单名词 although后面要跟完整的句子， neither nor, but rather 既不是也不是，而是。<=习惯用语。 如果改成neither nor, but容易把整个句子变成but跟前面although有平行句，有多余的连词的问题。 再来，要注意neither nor的平行问题。 最后语义逻辑问题，earth不可以cover planet，只有crust才可以。

考察知识点动作发出者，并列 cover这个动作是earth's crust发出的，不是earth，AE错误 B废话太多，the fact that 强行同位语；错误 C.neither seamless nor is it stationary里面，seamless和is it stationary不平行

1、看到这种开头，考虑主语必须是句首动作的发出者，2、看到not..or...，neither..nor..要注意平行
