80雷豆原句句子结构:companies could save $58 billion by preventing illness among employees and gain $200 billion through improving performance of workers if they simply provided offices;
原句想要表达的逻辑语义:公司每年能够省下58$ billion,通过在雇员中预防疾病;公司每年能得到200¥billion通过提高员工的表现,如果员工被提供有清新空气的办公室;
ABC:Each year和annually逻辑语义重复,排除;
D:原句的状语关系是:方式状语,用by来表示;这里用in prevention 来表示不符合gmat习惯,动词优于名词;
E:句意没有问题

improved worker performance是名词 improve不做动词

D:in的语义是在什么方面省钱(不平行),应该是通过什么方式省钱(和and后面语义平行)

It's nonsense, because "$xxxx in yyyyy" would mean that yyyy is something that can actually be measured in dollars. E.g., By driving a hybrid car, I will save thousands of dollars in fuel costs. Your business can save over $10,000 per month in shipping costs by using XYZ Courier Service.

each year和annually语义重复排除ABC; DE比较,D选项的in employee illness prevention不能表示“通过某种方式”,and前后都应该是通过某种方式节约钱,排除D; E选项虽然是by doing和through+名词,但是都表示“通过某种方式”,语义平行上比D优,所以选E

为啥E选项的by preventing和though improved worker performance简单动名词可以和名词平行呀
可欣同学
annually 与 each year 重复,排除ABC。。。D中的they指代不明确。

By... and through...也算是平行結構,不一定死板地認為是by... and by...

Manhattan: Here are the only words that differentiate (D) and (E): (D) in employee illness prevention .....improving performance of workers... (E) by preventing illness among employees .... improved worker performance... I think this choice boils down to idiom, although parallelism could be useful: (D) reads "companies could save $58B in X...and gain $200B through Y" The phrasing "save $ in X" is not ideal...the only correct usage of this I can think of is "save $ in banks" (i.e. to specify location of saved money). That is not the purpose here. (E) reads "companies could save $58B by preventing X...and gain $200B through Y" where the correct idiom "save $ by doing X" (i.e. to specify how money is saved) is used. Also, X and Y are parallel nouns (illness and performance) correctly completing the idioms "by preventing X (one thing) ...and through Y (some other thing)"

agreement问题,看到they it要时刻想指代什么,D选项最后的they可能指代workers,而实际却指代companies

Serena解析说D的and前后不平行,我觉得是平行的呀 DE的其中一个区别是save in/by,看到一个比较好的解释是save money in sth (从某处省钱) 和 save money by sth (通过某处省钱),供参考

阿星啊阿星
D选项真正的问题在于1、they指代不清,既可以指companies也可以指workers 2、改变了句意,原意是通过避免疾病来节约钱,D选项开头的in employee illness prevention是做句子状语修饰整个句子,没有“通过、凭借”的意思
Futurewinner

【Each year】 companies in the United States could 【save】 as much as $58 billion annually 通过某种方式by preventing illness among employees and 【gain】 as much as $200 billion 通过某种方式by preventing illness among employees and gain as much as $200 billion through 【improved worker performance】improved worker performance做名词 if 【they】指代前面的companies simply provided offices with cleaner air. 前面已经有了each year,所以后面用annually就重复了!!

$xxx in yyy,yyy必须是cost 例如,save $100 in the driving costs 而通过zzz手法来省钱,应该用by doing 如save $100 in the driving costs by walking
