DE主要问题是they showed that……这后面是一个独立clause，and连接前后两个独立clause，一定要加 逗号！DE排除 ABC 区别一：where还是that，这点不要排除的话看区别二：they, 这里they的指代有歧义，根据意思应该是指代societies，但是主语studies也是个复数，有歧义的嫌疑

个人认为and前后是平行结构，and不是用来连接两个句子的。 shown前面省略了have，但如果要把they保留的话（they指studies）为什么不把have一并留出来？那样的话showed也应该是shown。所以CD都不对。 而AB的their指谁？按理说应该指人，但这句话并没有出现“人”无论是主语还是宾语。前面的population还是个studies的定语（或者说修饰）。所以AB也不对。

我觉得 they showed that，最大的问题不是指代错误，they 可以指代 studies啊。 错在and后面是一个完整的句子了，and前面要打逗号的。
