women (who ... )were less likely ... than women ....歧义 参考RON2010-05-13后面半节课
Kath1230
women 【who ate nuts more than five times a week】 were about 【one third less likely to suffer】 from coronary heart disease... be less likely ... than ... 后面应该用than 而不用as 做题的时候要把句子先split了然后结构就出来了,不能想当然啊 women were 这个题已经做错不止一次了。。要彻底搞清楚啊,剖析句子结构 women 【who eat nuts】...were....than women 【who eat no nuts at all】 were...后面这里的were不能省略,省了前后就不平行了 than those /women who ate no nuts at all, E选项只不过把were倒装了 than were those who ate no nuts at all D选项中than women eating 一个是eating不和前面 who eat nuts平行,另外一个少了were
雪梨一次过
答案只在这三种中选:
【原平行形式】
women who ate... were... than women who ate... were
【省略/使用代词变成】
women who ate... were... than those who ate... were
【倒装变成】
women who ate... were... than were those who ate...
# 所以答案只有E
( ¨̮ )
the two groups of women involved in the study were eating at exactly the same time as each other, so we must use PARALLEL TENSES. the first construction uses "women who ate nuts" -- simple past tense verb. therefore, if there is a verb in the second construction, it MUST also be in the simple past tense. (you can't change tenses if you are talking about two simultaneous events in parallel.)
冠雄
我的理解: D.[women who ate nuts more than five times a week] were about one third less likely to suffer from coronary heart disease than [women eating no nuts at all] (were about suffer from coronary heart disease.)[]中是两个比较对象,()中是省略部分,主语不同,谓语是“be”的话“be”可以省略,为什么D错?难道两个比较对象修饰方法必须相同?
flavia回复 冠雄
因为如果than后面不加were的话会引起歧义: 【women who ate nuts more than five times a week】 were about one third less likely to suffer from 【coronary heart disease】 than 【women eating no nuts at all】.

fuckgmat
怪我说错了,当时功力不够,看不透,这个选项E是倒装,为的是把those放到后面,好被定语从句修饰

比较的是可能性 不是女人。 be likely to结构要完整 were要存在。

这才是真相!之前还一直疑惑不是说主语相同,谓语是“be”,“be”省略吗。

less 后面应该接than 排除ABC
D.women who ate nuts... were 和 women eating ..不平行
E.women who ate nuts were & were those who ate
关于than 后面的倒装:比较级than后,可以倒装也可以不倒装。日常少用,但在正式场合一般倒装。主语是代名词不到装。"In formal written language, we commonly use inversion after as and than in comparisons "
kisenana
A. less likely...as搭配错误,同理排除BC
D. 句子目的将women who ate lots of nuts和 women who ate no nuts at all比较,该选项中,由于 缺少系动词were
E. 正确,比较句句式结构平行对称; than后面需要倒装
